Alternating the classic motif of the quarter-square triangle quilt block, these mugs are reminiscent of vintage tiles and quilts. Using incised lines, stamps and slip to create the patterns these mugs have a layered surface.
Made during my time at Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana as an artist-in-residence, these mugs were fired in their cross-draft soda kiln. Each piece is distinctly unique with a drastically varied surface, dependent on their location within the kiln during firing and how the soda spray moved throughout the kiln and accumulated on each piece. Expect to see drips of glaze, variation in color and a surprisingly expressive surface.
