Wheel-thrown and facetted with three sculpted claw feet, these mugs are reminiscent of a witches cauldron or a clawfoot bathtub. Using sprig molds, stamps and hand sculpting techniques, this form has many details.
Made during my time at Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana as an artist-in-residence, these mugs were fired in their cross-draft soda kiln. Each piece is distinctly unique with a drastically varied surface, dependent on their location within the kiln during firing and how the soda spray moved throughout the kiln and accumulated on each piece. Expect to see drips of glaze, variation in color and a surprisingly expressive surface.
